Coming Soon - Food for Thought

In the next couple of months, we will launch a new Green Sanctuary program called Food for Thought.

Would you like for First UU Church to:

  • reduce world hunger,
  • promote good health,
  • reduce water shortages,
  • reduce air, water, and soil pollution,
  • support local farmers, and
  • reduce global warming?

You may wonder how our congregation would be able to tackle all of these important issues. But by using the "power of the plate" - your daily personal food choices - you can simultaneously make a difference in all of these areas!

Letter-writing for Cleaner Air in Houston

As Houstonians, we all are exposed to air pollution, but citizens living in Southeast Houston are greatly impacted by industrial air toxics. Children in those neighborhoods are particularly affected, having a much higher risk of developing leukemia.

You will have an opportunity this Sunday to send a letter to your city council member urging support of Mayor White's proposal to add air pollution standards to the City's nuisance ordinance. Please stop by Channing Hall to sign a prepared letter or write your own. Names and address of council members will be available.
